Who should have recieved the nobel prize?

Postby Bernadette » Sat Oct 10, 2009 6:13 pm

Herta Müller has received the the Nobel Prize in Literature this year. 'She is very highly regarded across Europe' explained Per Wästberg chairman of the Nobel Prize Literature Committee. This prompts the question: should it have been awarded to Harry Mulisch? At least several of his books have been translated into English.

Outstanding poet, playwright and poet Hugo Claus was the most likely candidate in the Dutch language, but he died last year. I prefer Cees Nooteboom over Harry Mulisch. Or, even better, Hella Haasse. But I don't now any younger writersthat are eligible.

If he hadn't been so controversial, I'd have considered Salman Rushdie to be an excellent choice for the Nobel Prize in Literature.

But to be fair, I don't know nearly enough to be able to make a sound judgement as to who should win the Nobel Prize in Literature. Like I said, Salman Rushdie would've been a good choice for English-language literature. As for the literature in other languages, I just can't tell.
